Cover Notes was originally formed as ‘TranzAx’ in 2000 from a group of six people who worked in the Department of Transport. The original line up was comprised of Terrie Baker, Vivienne Harris, Mike Dunbar, Chris Sykes, Graham Herrmann and Andrew Davies. The band evolved out of a collection of musicians performing at the biennial Department of Transport Art and Craft Fair. From humble beginnings with lunch time rehearsals to regular fortnightly practices, TranzAx's first gig was to perform for the Kiwani's Tea Tree Gully dinner. On the back of this success, the band pursued other gigs, playing for retirement villages, community groups, birthday parties and other events. A regular feature on TranzAx's calendar was to perform Christmas songs for Department of Transport employees on Christmas Eve.
Viv left the band in 2009, and was replaced a few months later by Christine Arnold. Chris Sykes left the band in 2010, and has proven to be irreplaceable. After over 30 years in the music industry, Graham ‘retired’in 2012. In late 2012, the remaining members of TranzAx were joined by Mary Griffin on vocals and harmonica, and Lee Brown on rhythm guitar, with Andrew moving to bass guitar and drum machine. The new incarnation is to be known as Cover Notes. Mary performed with the band for its first gig only, but remains available to the band as a 'locum' singer. In July 2013, Tony Jeffries joined the band to fill the void of keys, adding the touches required to complete each song. 2013 has been a very successful first year - in fact, one of their most successful first years ever!
Since 2013 there have been a few changes as band members have embarked on a sea change. This gave us an opportunity to review our song selections and of course ideas from the newer band members has inspired us to experiment with our song choices. Band members now consist of Terrie, Christine, Andrew, Mike, Lee , Tony and Chris.
Our focus is on providing a wonderful selection of music suitable for all occasions and includes a huge selection of upbeat dance music, ballads for background music and acoustic variations for the smaller more intimate occasions.
